Collecting hits like “Get Away” and “Undercover”, VERIVERY has caught the attention of many fans in k-pop. Not only the fact that the group has shown an excellent performance in the reality show “Road to Kingdom” in 2020, but also the members’ singing and especially dancing skills, makes everyone fall in love with the group.

The septet formed by Dongheon, Hoyoung, Minchan, Gyehyeon, Yeonho, Yongseung and Kangmin debuted in January 2019 under the label Jellyfish Entertainment. In conversation with K4US, VERIVERY talked about their new song “Tap Tap” released on November 14th, which accumulated 10 million views, the message they want to convey with the song and which are their favorite series and bands. Check out!

Hello VERIVERY! This is K4US and first of all we would like to thank you for granting us this interview. For starters, you debuted in 2019 and completed three years of career earlier this year. How has this experience been for you?

VRVR: We have been able to grow a lot on stage, such as how to communicate with the audience and fully enjoy ourselves on stage without being shy as we’ve gained experiences. Within those three years of our career, we learned how to maintain and manage our condition during tours and now we are used to the process to show better a performance to the audience. But above all, the times we spent together with VERRERs were very precious and happy.

In April of this year, the group released their first full-length album titled “Series ‘O’ [Round 3: Whole]”, the third part of the “O” series. Can you tell us what story you want to tell with these releases?

VRVR: Our first full album portrays the struggle between those seeking to face the darkness and those trying to protect it. Through the ‘Endgame’ that closes the conflict with the keyword of “Hello Darkness”, it tells the story that as the ‘inner darkness’ is also a part of oneself, let’s accept that darkness is part of oneself and just co-exist.

The group recently released “Liminality – EP.LOVE” with a very fun and colorful vibe, different from “Undercover”, for example. What inspired you to produce this EP? Also, what message would you like to get across with this release?

VRVR: The theme of our new album is ‘LOVE’ found in the journey to search for ‘Elements of Happiness’ after facing the inner darkness, and as many things are happening around the world this year, we wanted to deliver a positive energy to many people while listening to our album singing love with vibrant and bright vibe. We hope everyone can have a happy day and spend this end of the year full of love with VERIVERY.

Watching the MV for “Tap Tap” it’s clear that the group had a lot of fun during the recording. Do you have any stories to share with the Brazilian VERRERs about recording the mv or any part you would like them to pay more attention to?

VRVR: To share a behind story, there’s a homage to the famous American TV show ‘Friends’ in the opening part of our music video and this scene was supposed to be filmed in front of the water fountain. But unfortunately, it was raining heavily on that day, so we had to shoot it indoors.

There is also a collage with many photos of us in the music video so hope you all can keep an eye on that.

In addition, the music video has a very 1990s aesthetic and this is clear when you make reference to the North American series “Friends” and also appear playing instruments in a band! Therefore, we would like each member to nominate a series and a band for VERRERs around the world.

DONGHEON: I like the band MGK(Machine Gun Kelly) and I usually listen to their music. I also like the “Stranger Things” series from Netflix.

HOYOUNG: It’s a Korean drama series called “Be Melodramatic” and for the band, everyone knows them but I personally like them so much so I would like to recommend One Direction

MINCHAN: I recommend “High School Musical”. I really enjoyed watching this film so much during my childhood that I memorized all the songs from the movie, so I want VERRERs to enjoy it together with me. I would like to recommend DAY6 for the band.

GYEHYEON: I would like to nominate a Korean sitcom series “High Kick!” and a band called Buzz, an influential band in the history of Korea.

YEONHO: For the series, I would nominate “Be Melodramatic”. This is my favorite drama series! As for the band, I recommend Coldplay!! I have liked them since middle school.

YONGSEUNG: The movie “Whiplash” was very impressive and it gave me quite a shock. It made me think again of my own way of practice and its process, so I would like to recommend “Whiplash”. I usually enjoy listening to the songs from the band One Direction and Why Don’t We.

KANGMIN: I want to recommend “WandaVision” from the Marvel series and the band Oasis

Now that the shows are happening again in the World, would you like to do a performance in Brazil?

VRVR: If we do have an opportunity, then we’d definitely love to perform in Brazil. We were very sad when we didn’t get to meet VERRERs in Brazil while visiting Latin America from the last tour, but if we get a chance next time, we’d really love to perform in Brazil.

Finally, what message would VERIVERY like to leave for Brazilian VERRERs?

VRVR: VERRERs in Brazil! As we’ve mentioned earlier, we were very sad for not being able to meet you all when we were in Latin America. However, we hope you all can find some comfort through our bright new single album [Liminality – EP.LOVE] and exciting title track “Tap Tap”. We’ll visit Brazil next time and have fun together, so let’s promise to meet you all then!!
