Sakura Card Captor Clear Card mangá

Wait, Sakura is back?!

Yes! That’s right! It’s exactly what you read! Sakura, Tomoyo, Kero, Touya, Yukito, Syaoran and several other characters will return to finally close the new Clear Card arc of Cardcaptor Sakura.

It was announced during Sakura Fes that this second arc that was released in 2018 will indeed have a continuation and will close the story of our charismatic Sakura once and for all.  It was not said, however, in which format this continuation will be released, which could be a second season, OVAs or movies.  The cast, studio and production team are also yet to be revealed and confirmed, but it is believed that at least the voice cast of the characters will most likely not change.

However, it is worth noting that even though the anime does not have a date for its premiere, the Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card manga has a month scheduled for its end. Still in October 2023, fans will have the 15th and last volume of this second arc and we will finally know how this story will end.

But who or what is Cardcaptor Sakura?

The first, best known and famous arc of CardCaptor Sakura was released in an anime version in 1996, ending in 3 seasons in 2000. Sakura, in the first weeks of release, proved to be a great success and, fulfilling what it promised, became a global phenomenon enchanting children, young people and even adults. Definitely, both anime and manga Card Captor Sakura have marked the lives of many people with their captivating story, full of challenges, teachings and cuteness.

Comprising 12 volumes of manga in the Mahou Shoujo (magical girls) style, Sakura Card Captors tells the story of Kinomoto Sakura, a 10-year-old girl who ends up accidentally releasing a set of magic cards from a book – the so-called Clow Letters. Due to this accident, the girl is chosen by one of the guardians of the book to gather them all before they cause inconvenience to the city where the girl lives and, consequently, to the whole world.

In Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card, Sakura is already 14 years old, in the 7th year of school, and has the surprise of meeting again and knowing that she will attend school again with her “great friend” Syaoran (I put it in parentheses because these two give me butterflies in my stomach, okay?). However, Sakura’s cards undergo an unusual transformation after she has a rather mysterious dream… And with that, the Clear Card arc begins!

In addition to the 3 seasons of the first arc, it is also important to note that Sakura contains 4 OVA’s — 1 OVA also on Clear Card — and 2 very famous movies! The first was “CardCaptor Sakura: The Movie”. In this first film, Sakura wins a trip to Hong Kong, Syaoran and Mei Lin’s hometown, and she takes Touya, Yukito, Tomoyo and Kero with her. There, she also meets her friends who live in the country, but as nothing in sweet Sakura’s life is easy, she begins to go through strange situations in the place.

The first movie of Cardcaptor Sakura

“Gekijoban CardCaptor Sakura”, the movie’s Japanese name, was released in 1999 and took place between the first and second seasons (specifically between episodes 35 and 36) of the anime, however its story does not affect the events of the anime at all. manga as much as the anime, it was just an extra movie made for the fans.

However, the second film is part of both the anime and manga story and is extremely important for the development of the plot! “Card Captor Sakura 2: The Sealed Letter” takes place after the events of the 3rd season, therefore being considered as the last episode of the first arc.

In this movie, Syaoran returns to Japan, together with Mei Lin, and Sakura decides to tell the boy how she feels about him (my internal screams in the background). But objects start disappearing from the city as well as Sakura’s own letters. The girl then discovers that the only way to capture the letter that is causing all this is to give up her love for Syaoran.

Even for those who don’t know much about Sakura’s history, this movie delivers on everything it proposes: a concise plot from start to finish, drama, romance and a lot of magic.  It’s that kind of movie that you start with all smiles and full of nostalgia, go through a roller coaster of emotions and at the end you find yourself crying with emotion with a dull smile on your face.
