At the age of 15, she collects prominent roles and added one more goal to her list, with her most recent success, “See You in my 19th life”, which was among the 10 most watched series in Brazil for days in the Netflix Brasil’s ranking and, once again, conquered the public with her indisputable talent. As if she really was an ordinary person like us, Kim SiA revealed to K4US that she gets nervous even doing something she likes and shared with us, some of her wishes for the future. Check out our chat with the rising actress:
Your very first project, “Miss Baek”, had more prominence in the asian market, while “See You In My 19h Life” is a true global success. How is it for you to know that the whole world can get to watch your work?
Knowing that viewers from all over the world watch my work is very exciting but at the same time I get a little bit worried about what they’ll think. But I guess the feeling of excitement is greater.
You started working as an actress very young, at 10 years old. By the number of jobs you took part of in such a short time, I believe you must love acting. How did your interest in acting come through?
When I was 7, I wanted to do many things and used to have many dream jobs. But in reality, it is not possible to do everything we want to. The acting role is a profession where you can express different lives through acting and I think this aspect attracted me. I was also naturally influenced by my younger sister who started acting earlier than me.
Did You know? Kim SiA’s sister has also a very well known face to the south korean kdramas and movies lovers. She was in “Chocolate” and “The King: Eternal Monarch”, besides “Miss Baek” where she had the chance to work with her sister.
We have to say that you did a fantastic job in “See You In My 19h Life”. And considering your career ’til now, it is clear to see that, when the director says “ACTION!”, you completely change in front of the camera. Being able to play such different characters must be an incredible experience. Do you like being able to transact between different personalities every new character?
Yes. I like it a lot and I have fun too. If I didn’t work in acting, it wouldn’t be possible to become and live as different characters. That’s why these works are interesting and cool
Yoon Joo Won from “See You In My 19th Life” is a character who carries a lot of deep feelings, mainly because she can see and still remember her past lives. How did you connect with Joo Won’s story? Was it difficult for you?
I worked hard and struggled to find the balance between a mature adult and an innocent child. It was hard to find the midpoint between the two.
“See You In My 19th Life” is a film adaptation of a webtoon of the same name. Is there a webtoon/manhwa you’d like to see adapted and, of course, play a character in it?
Personally, I really like the webtoon “Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid”. I also like “Get Back” and “Hero Killer” which have the protagonist’s action as a genre. Therefore, if there is an opportunity, I would like to play the characters that appear in these works.
Throughout your career, you’ve been able to act alongside big names in the industry like Shin Hye Sun and Ahn Bo Hyun from “See You In My 19h Life” and Jeon Do Yeon from “Kill Bok Soon”. What could you learn from them? Did they ever give you any tips?
Mom Do Yeon told me to relax, get comfortable and not feel pressured or nervous. When we were shooting Kill BokSoon, she always told me “SiA, relax”. Actually, I’m the type of person who can’t be relaxed, because I get nervous, but whenever “Mom Do Yeon” asked me to chill, it gave me strength and I became more comfortable like a spell.
Shin Hye Sun, Ahn Bo Hyun and Jeon Do Yeon are established names in the industry and the experience of working with all three of them must have been fantastic. But we assume there must be someone you would love to work with. Who is this person?
I was blown away by Choi Hyun Wook’s performance in DP2 recently and would like to work with him someday.
“See You In My 19th Life” and “Kill Bok Soon”, both released this year, were very different productionsone from another. What other genre would you like to work on in the future?
I would like to try the action genre. I would love to try physical action scenes and challenge myself with super power action. And also roles of psychopaths and murderers. And I also want to try high teen genre. Come to think of it, there are many genres I want to try!
In the past five years of work, you’ve done six movies and four k-dramas. Do you still have time to “be a teenager”? Who is Kim SiA on backstage?
I think Kim SiA off camera is an average student of her age. I like to have fun with my friends at school and I study like an ordinary student.
Finally, what can your fans expect from Kim SiA as an actress in the future?
I’m still young, so I’d appreciate it if you could anticipate the endless possibilities to grow even more from now on.
Game time! SiA sent us a video, answering some questions with whatever comes to mind first and even sent a message to the Brazilian fans thanking them for their love! Come on, check this out!
